~funny~

The Penang Bridge International Marathon 24.6.07

As a Penangist, very pai se to tell ppl that this is my 1st time joining this one of the biggest yearly event in Penang… but, really it’s my 1st time ;p;p;p..

Back in high skol, the Quarter Marathon (10km route) category is only for 14-16yrs old (now already changed to 13-15years old coz they didn’t study Peralihan).. years 17 and above all will need to join Half Marathon (22.3km route) or Full Marathon (42.195km route)…

I registered while I’m 14 n 15, but just for the sake of getting the T-shirt.. that time I thought having the T-shirt was cool~.. and, at that time, I was too heavy to carry 70+ kg to run.. =)) =))

Until I was 16yrs old, I realized is the last chance for me to join this event for ‘the rest of my life’.. takkan I will go run for 22.3km in future?? impossible!!!.. BUT, unfortunately, I suffered a serious illness – chickenpox!!! Again, I missed the event, although I lost 10kg n had lighter body for my knee to support….. =(( =((

Then, this event is out of my life for years….

2007~!! Malaysia is celebrating 50th Anniversary of National Independence.. so, there opened a special category called ‘Fun Run’, which is 10km, for this year~!! That means my dream can be fulfill~!!! \:D/ \:D/

FULL MARATHON (6hours; the 1st prize is RM4000 - 6000)
(Group A, B, C were started at 3am)
Starting from Sek. Keb. Sg. Gelugor, Tengku Kudin round – about back to starting point, on the Penang Bridge, u - turn Prai Toll Plaza, on the Penang Bridge, Bayan Lepas Highway, u - turn at Seagate, Bayan Lepas Highway and finishing at USM.

HALF MARATHON (3 hours; the 1st prize is RM1500 - 3000)
(Group D, E, F were started at 430am while Gourp G & H were started at 500am)
Starting from Sek. Keb. Sg. Gelugor, on the Penang Bridge , u - turn Prai Toll Plaza , on the Penang Bridge and finishing at USM.

QUARTER MARATHON (90 mins; the 1st prize is RM800) & FUN RUN (120 mins)
(Group J, K, L were started at 530am)
Starting from RECSAM, u - turn at the Mid – span of the Penang Bridge and finishing at USM.

The bridge is the third longest bridge in the world (13.5km; still 3rd?? not sure..) and it is the only time of the year when bridge is closed for several hours (2am – 10am).. but not for 2007 la, as there was a bomb threat incident happened on 4.4.07 (4:45pm – 7pm) at KM 3.8 which resulted almost 4hours traffic standstill in Penang and Butterworth due to bridge closed for investigation!!

Before I did the registration online, I was considering going for Women Open (22.3km) because I want the Finisher Medal for all runners who complete the run within the prescribed time.. they were giving to all categories except Fun Run.. hmmm.. but, I know I’m just lion, not I.R.O.N.. so, guai guai went for Fun Run and got the Certificate of Participation enough la… ;p;p;p

On 22th June, we went to collect our T-shirt at Queensbay Mall.. saw a lot of ppl Q-ing for that also.. can foresee how big event is that…

The night before, went for ‘Fantastic 4’ with Kelvin, Irene and YeeSeong.. just so-so.. dun put high expectation and sat there simply enjoyed it.. had dinner at Seoul Garden, ok ok la, abit nicer than last time I tried in Singapore.. the back to sleep in Ahlik’s hse, that’s my another house in Pg, thx lik, hahahaha… chit chat and browsed the KK pic until nearly 12midnite… zzZZzzzzZzzzz

4am, woke up by doremon’s theme song.. blur blur drove to Angelia’s house and parked my car there.. then Irene’s bf, YS, sent us to the starting point RECSAM.. most of the roads were closed for the event.. YS’s car cant go in to RECSAM, so we had a little warmed up walking there like many ppl did…

It was so so so crowded.. much more crowded than I could imagined.. at least 5x more crowded than Starwalk.. mind you, only 3 categories were started at this point.. imagine 8 categories of ppl packed at another starting point.. walaoe~~.. saw a lot of kids and I’m so old to stand among all of the.. luckily still got a lot uncle aunty joined Fun Run.. ahha.. some even came from KL, Thailand, Singapore!!!... really ‘International’… got guai-lou & guai-mui also…

“peep~ peep~~!!” the run began. One rectangular stage on the right of starting point.. a lot ‘Tua-Liap-Liang’ (I dunno who are they..;p;p) stood there to witness this historical moment.. ahha.. ‘heavy traffic’.. all moved forward slowly.. cant actually ‘run’.. 3 of us went left & right, tried to get out from this crowded place.. started to sweat..

After 20mins, we were entering the bridge.. the scene just exactly like 6pm traffic on weekdays.. haha.. could see all heads moving towards the ‘neck’ of bridge.. like a bunch of ants.. Irene was the fittest among us and ah lia jie bluffed me into believing that she is lack of stamina… in fact, the most lousy one was me.. hehe :”> :”>

We walked + jogged towards the ‘triangles’ of bridge.. ( I cant said it’s middle coz the ‘triangles’ is actually located nearer to island compare to it’s distance from mainland.. the sky was still very dark.. saw a lot of ppl were busy taking photos but my hp got problem.. so, we didn’t take any pic on the bridge… >.<

After U-turn at the middle of ‘triangles’, guess we had finished 7km in 60mins.. we tend to walk more than jog for the way back to USM.. unlike Starwalk, runners got cool 100plus at mid point, I felt so thirsty (didn’t bring water myself ;p) until I reached around the km 8 of my route only got one small cup of Spritzer… and had to fight for that like war… very big difference for moderate and big events…

Bo-lat to run after I finished my spritzer.. went slower n slower.. ahha.. pai se.. psycholocal prob again.. ;p;p;p.. the sky turned bright in few minutes.. some of the full/half-marathon ket-ka joined our crowd already.. pui-fokk~!!.. suddenly I had a thought that why I didn’t bring my counterpain.. ahha… siao liao~~.. Also, there were some supporter ‘on duty’.. they yelled with banner: Nothing is Impossible~!! Imposibble is Nothing~!!.. felt myself like camping during high skol time, creating our patrol yells.. hahahhahaa

Last 500m, could heard the MC talking on stage in USM.. Irene started to accelerate, so I followed.. she really ket.. we jogged back to ending point and finished at 7:05am (95mins; 5mins late from our own targeting time).. ah lia jie slowly enjoyed at the back.. and I very bad, went to ‘cheat’ for another Certificate for my younger sister, haha, coz she missed the event due to the gathering with frens in Bk Merah Waterpark.. ahha…

Actually no need cheat one la.. some ppl will just drop their cert or medal anywhere.. my brother said last time they saw a lot were left on field.. can collect it and sell back to organizer or sell to ‘old-news-paper’ van =)) =))

So many sponsors set booth here, got indocafe, spritzer, fitness cereal, milo, yeo’s drink.. and so on.. luckily not too much of runners reached yet, we went thru the short-Q and tried most of these freebies.. hehe.. by that time only my hp could function.. kek hei~!!.. Irene and Angelia were tired and I kept asking them to snap pictures with/for me.. ahha.. then, before we left, we went to Sports Complex at opposite to claim our goodies bag ^^

The event still on going.. but we decided to go back liao.. We walked about 1.5 - 2 km back to Sri Nibong traffic light and YS waited us there.. no one have mood for breakfast already.. my legs were pain (just recovered from KK trip.. dai sei~ ;p;p;p).. and I just went back to ahlik’s hse for a short nap before ‘breakfast’ n drove back to B’worth….

Thanks mouse for the tix.. Irene n Angelia for the fun.. YS for the ride.. and Lik for the stay.. alwiz mafan a lot ppl.. pai se pai se.. keke… Pg bridge marathon, “HOPE” to see you in 2008 la~~ hahahaa… -The End-

KK Trip *5*

Day5: Sunday Market + Pulau Marukan (KL gang)

Hou-5 hou-5~!! It’s last day in KK already… everyone slept so deeply except fen n i.. I woke up coz too cold (I chose to sleep near aircond coz the weather is “kook”..).. whole body was pain and hardly can move.. I try hard to apply counterpain all over again before I got down from bed.. ahha..

Really addicted to counterpain.. I bought 120g (RM19.90), the biggest tube, still almost finished using it, guess I used 100g already.. while, fen n others only get small one, 30g (RM7.60), but still enuf for them… hmmm.. my ‘luas permukaan’ bigger.. ahha.. wat la~!! Really pain ma~!!! Buy d then use la.. ah bo how???? (tengah fatt-lan-zaa)

Fen n i left for breakfast around 8am.. then sky bright like 10am liao.. quite ‘kook’ thou the weather is good.. there are many shops around to serve breakfast, got dim sum, bak kut teh, hawker stalls.. still we went for Sabah Ban-Min.. u know la, come Sabah of coz need to taste the original one ma.. eat Sabah Ban-Min in penang jz like eat hokkien mee in KL… we ordered both soup one(RM4.50) and dry one(RM5).. the Min is Q-Q and thickness is perfect, nice to munch.. but personally I think the soup one taste nicer.. they served with very big portion and got dumpling (soi-gao) summore… ^^

Then, we went to the famous spot in town, Sunday Market at Gaya Street, this time no need to check with the map, coz it shown that got 2 streets away.. but actually, really 2 streets la, small one, like 2 rows of shop houses… from far, we could feel the passion of the market.. a very busy market….

Wow~ this was so fun!!! To my surprise, I found many things are selling here, food, drinks, clothes, bags, many choices of souvenirs, fresh vege, herbs, groceries.. and pets!!! Rabbits, fish, hamsters, cats, dogs.. we met with ‘panda-eyes mixed with Labrador’.. so cute~!!!!!!!!! Also got charity group set booth there.. they also have event like city-run… some handicapped uncles playing songs.. got small fountain at the middle of market.. some seats for ppl to rest..and those seller are friendly too.. I love this market~!!!

Luckily we went there earlier coz it’s very hot when we finished a round in market.. it’s half-past 10 in the morning only but it’s like having 12noon’s hot sun… we’re tired after holding so many bags, ahha, bought too much.. faster got the key from KE and back to room 1st.. then, we were told that our check-out time been brought forward from 5pm to 12nn coz they got walk-in customers.. okay~, 90mins was more than enuf for us to bathe n pack…

Packed, packed, packed… already 3bags~!! Still a lot things hvnt put in… took out and packed again… I thought going back should be have lesser things to bring (well, except souvenir la..).. but seems my estimation for this was wrong ;p;p;p .. finally, all of them back from market, we settled all bills and signed on ahlik’s souvenir (rafting cert.. hahahaha).. then off to lobby..

The staffs were friendly and kind, they allowed us to stored luggage and stayed at lobby if we want to wait for our flight… they went for roasted chicken/duck/pork shop to have lunch while I accompanied ‘my hero of the climb’ to consukt doctor.. he had gastric.. the clinic very stingy, 1 pcs of thin thin paper (MC) also dunwan give… ma de!!

Around 1pm, ST already off to KKIA (kota kinabalu international airport) 1st.. KE n HH went to Pilipino Market again to grab more souvenir.. Fen, CM, Mic, Zk and Sophia went to Pulau Marukan as their flight was 915pm.. Apak was sleeping at lodge.. As I lazy to go with KE/HH, too late to go island (my flight at 510pm), I just sat at lobby to read the brochure of Sabah Spots.. ahha, ya, last day here only I read it… spent few minutes to finish it and started to feel boring.. so, I decided to walk around somewhere nearby….

I discovered a funny thing that is all kopitiam closed after breakfast time… only some left for lunch or different shops open only to serve lunch.. then all closed again about 2-3pm.. then only re-open at dinner time.. so it’s super healthy lifestyle that u cant really have 3:15pm high tea, 5pm tea-break or 10pm yamcha.. only can have 10am tea-break.. ahha…

Too hot to loaf around, at last I went to Wisma Merdeka again, for the aircond.. ahha.. nothing more to buy, just walked… found a cute lion toy.. tried the new body-butter at BodyShop.. went to Watson again.. did I mentioned that UncleToby’s Chewy (breakfast stick), which selling at RM10.50-12.50 in KL, is only selling at RM8.60 here???.. the price of goods here is fair although cooked food is selling slightly expensive than KL..

Almost 4pm, they hvnt back from island, apak woke up n felt better already.. KE, HH n I left to airport by taxi (RM20 per cab)… too many things to carry already, so I left my lovely tongkat at lodge.. bit regret now.. On the way back to KL, 3 of us chat non-stop regarding the climb.. coz we didn’t walked together (front n back), we experienced the different things.. then, we were shocked to meet ST at LCCT~!! We didn’t know she was same flight with us to back Penang, ahha… we dined in Mcdy.. I got the Shrek3 set, the seaweed powder + fries is weird but ‘funny’ to me.. ahha..

At 9:15pm, we boarded Pg flight, it was as full as the flight KK->KL just now.. seems a lot ppl enjoyed shopping in KL during weekend as ‘now everyone can fly’ slogan is well advertised.. lion was in low-batt condition.. zzzZZzZzz

Stepped in my home-sweet-home at 11pm.. spent an hour to unpack my stuff.. tried to clean my new sport shoes which dirtied by an fen’s tongkat (fen, the stain is still there!!!).. categorized those smelly shirts according to different washing methods.. this n that.. then bathe n threw myself on bed.. tmr still need to work… body pain.. hmm… zZZZzzzzz

My thought: i will go KK again, not for the climb of coz~!! maybe next trip can go with family.. coz i'd done all the dangerous one (rafting n hiking) which i think my parents are not suitable for these.. we can visit the culture village, safari, Poring HotSpring, overnite at Mesilau Resort, snorkelling around the islands.. and many more.. gotta check the blossom period of Rafflesia flower and plan for next trip.. ^^

** Monday walked like crab in office.. stopped using counterpain then all the acid released and tensed the muscles.. luckily my house got one pro geh physiotherapist, my sister, hahaha.. she massaged for me and I can walked like lion on Tuesday.. wakakaka.. thx sis.. **

-The End-

KK Trip *4*

Day4: We’re the champion~!!

Kia-su team like us.. normally climbers will start climbing at 230-3am.. but we requested to start at 130am!! Haha.. we wanted to do so because (I think):
1) we have enuf time to climb slowly but still can arrive in time to see sunrise..
2) no need to give way to other climbers as this can be considered extra movement/stop for us, gotta maintain our stamina..
3) have more oxygen to breathe in..
Our guides were so nice and they agreed with our plan without extra charge.. he claimed that we were the “special team” that they ever had..

Heard KE n HH woke up at 12stg.. pai se, I woke up at 1am.. felt well recharged, luckily I took panadol and applied counterpain.. haha.. brushed up with very hot de hotwater + very cold de coldwater.. (kek hei with this).. after brushed up, every1 guai-guai sat at round table and the guide had ready the boiled water for us..

Actually the café closed at 8pm and only re-open at 2am.. so the guide helped us to purchase gas and boiled water for us to have our breakfast (Maggie + 3in1 drink).. see, we’re just too lucky to have them as guides~ !! other teams woke up earlier but they dun hav boiled water for breakfast and have to wait until 2am…

Abit delay, 140am.. we put on our headlights/torch lights (rmb to buy LED one).. the thermometer red 9.6 degree Celsius.. it’s drizzle outside.. guides gave a short briefing.. “it’s was heavy rain last nite and we worry that you guys journey today will be tough!!”.. what a bad news… anyhow, we started our journey to peak~!! 2.72 KM to go~, Ganbatte!!!

We’re surrounded by darkness.. The stars shining brightly in the sky.. The road was quite wet, more rock than soil… about 300m walked.. the guide unlocked the gate (he grabbed the key in advance).. the trail started with staircases… now I wanna introduced “my hero of the climb” officially – Mr Apak!!

Mic was the most fit to lead us.. followed by CM.. then Apak was taking care of me.. u know, Leo + Leo = wan face = sure can reach peak = perfect combination of the climb (started my horoscope theory again.. haha).. then KE with HH.. Fen v ST n Sophia n Zk.. guides at the back to make sure no one left behind..

The slope of the road (granite) go steeper and steeper.. we need to grab the rope for assistance.. the most dangerous 250m slope, it’s almost 80 degree.. we had to crawl like spiderman ;p;p;p.. but LUCKily, the rock/granite was dried by wind.. so it’s not as slippery as expected ^^

Very fast we arrived Sayat-Sayat hut, the last hut to rest and have our water bottle refilled.. also the last washroom.. all climbers have to register at this check point for safety precaution.. the person-in-charge will jot down climbers’ climbing time from this point to peak n return.. have to maek sure everyone’s name is correct once more so that successful climber can receive their cert at Kk Park HQ later…

Climb climb, stop stop.. kept ‘manja’ my hero to stop for rest as I felt bit hard to breathe.. need more deep-breathes.. forgive me la, I so heavy, my knees need to rest also ma.. pity apak also, have to drag me up for some steep big rocks =)).. CM, Apak n me even lied down on rock and enjoyed the sky which was fully occupied by blinking stars.. the feeling was just no words can explained.. syok x100000000~!!! Cold cold rock ease the tiredness of backbone, cold cold wind made us felt sleepy.. again, we were lucky as the wind not too strong and we still able to continue climbing..
“why no moon one?” I asked.
“coz today chu1?” hero simply answered (luen ngap)...
[cut in: after back in Pg, I found that it’s really chu1 that day, wakakkakaaa.. ]

3hrs passed without any noticed.. turned and looked back.. saw a lot of blinking torchlights coming up in a line.. like snake.. haha.. bit scared coz the road looked very steep, I scared I fall/roll down.. haha.. the weather was so clear and we could see the lighting from Laban Rata.. felt myself so tiny in mother nature… ishh, my right shoes got wet.. freezing my foot >.<

The last hour before arrived the peak was the most tough for the climb.. basically is psychology problem.. as we could felt the oxygen go thinner n thinner, we could see the flat ground at the end of this slope.. we wish to reach faster.. but the route like fooling us.. the two peaks were so near in front of us but was like walking on never-ending road.. the route goes with a big ‘S’ shape which lengthen our journey…

16th June 2007, Saturday, 5:35am (0535hrs), hclion on the peak of South East Asia (4095.2m; named Low’s peak; fanny, not ur peak ya..)!!!! Hoo-ray~!!!!!

The sky was still dark, we ngam ngam arrived for the sun rise!!!! Mic 1st, then Cm, then apak, then me, then KE n HH, then ST.. we busy snapped photos than enjoy the sunrise.. ahahaa.. ST said “they might not come up coz no energy edi”.. who? Fen n sophia.. Zk was still with them.. eeee.. dunno what to say... but after a while, I saw fen!!! Sophia n Zk too.. and the guides.. they had made it~!!!!!!!!!! So happy all of us arrived together!!.. we faster took group photos as the area at peak is small and we had to give way for others to take picture as well…

Take note! There is only thin rope linking up the borders or peak and the valley~!!! I tried to look down the valley, guess there is 1000m deep.. so dark.. kinda scary.. I dare not go any step further.. ST and apak did that for the sake of taking nice nice pictures… geng~!!

Descent from the peak.. few metres away.. we stopped for breakfast (energy bar AGAIN!!) and photo session.. Mr. Su & Mr. Pu were so proud of us.. coz they said our team can completely arrived, from Mesilau to peak, this is a record.. most groups didn’t arrived in a whole… at 1st I not so believed but after that heard Weson’s team got 2 girls gave up, then only I believe that…

I dunno how to describe in words.. dunno how to distinguish the difference of clud-sea we saw.. it’s very different at every level for our climb yet all is so the super mega beautiful~!! The plants also soft and pretty.. there is a small wishing pond for climbers to make their wish.. rmb the 62yrs old uncle?? He made it too~!!!! He is much stronger than many youngster~!!!!

About 30mins we spent around the peaks.. we started to descent to Laban Rata.. need to catch up time for our next spot – Poring Hot Spring.. But CM hurt his legs accidentally.. so we took slightly more time to reach Laban Rata.. but, +vely, we had more time to enjoy the scenery and took more pictures.. haha..

Saw fen n sophia played the backward descent method so happily.. I faced the difficulty!! My shoes couldn’t “catch” the rock, too slippery~!! I scared I will fall down, so Mr. Su & Mr. Pu took turns to hold me n we walked down the slope.. ya, WALKED, really deng!! Coz the slope is just like 30-45 degree slope that we actually need not to climb like spiderman just now.. it was too dark and we thought it’s steep.. ishh.. climb till so chi-cham…!!!

Once our team completely arrived resthse, it started to rain again.. we’re really in time, again, hahahaha.. although we already 1hr late from estimated time, still we took a longer break for lunch due to the weather changed. Now, my toes were so so pain.. as well as feet.. guides advised me to change slipper but I didn’t follow, it’s really too cold to wear only slipper~!!

There is one convenient service here, they have a counter sell a lot of things, such as battery, torchlight, stationery, and so on.. most important is they are selling postcard n stamp!!! I read this from someone’s blog, it’s essential for ppl like me who like to send postcard to frens n family wherever I go.. imagine if u receive a postcard from mount KK @3272.7m.. ahha.. same feeling like eating in plane ;p;p;p

After lunch, packed all stuff, wore raincoat.. we started to descent to Timpohon gate while the rain turned smaller at 1030am.. I still able to descent steadily until Layang- Layang Hut with the group… road was slippery as it’s still drizzle.. luckily we bought tongakt with us.. it’s a good support for us on this slippery condition..

And guess what?! We met our classmate!! Who? Yeah~ u’re right, I mentioned his name just now, it’s Weson!! He came with Mai and other frens just for to climb mount KK~.. He so ket, carried a 8kg+ bag with his teammates’ food in it and be the very first to arrived LL~!!! Really like optical trip, trip with 2 groups, ahha.. we stayed there chit-chat for quite long, coz his teammate need those food in his bag n he gotta wait.. anyhow, we left before his teammates arrived..

After the long break, guess my muscle cold down already.. I started to feel the pain from my feet.. this was a suffering experience for me.. because it’s all big big (height) staircases all the way down!!! I had to squat down to go further steps.. and soon my thighs felt bit cramp too.. now I cant live without tongkat..

At KM 3 to KM 2, I really couldn’t catch up my teammates.. left behind alone.. I’m not scared at all but very pain.. guides also very far from me already.. I continued to go down very slowly.. besides the pain, I also scared will fall down as the soil very slippery.. so even have some buffer zone (flat surface), I also walked very slow.. ahha, bo bian, I scared hurt one..

At last, Mr. Pu came back to find me and grabbed my hand to give me support.. the tongkat no longer can help me 100%.. too pain.. maybe I also psychologically think it’s very pain.. haha.. Mr. Pu walked very fast, I needed to catch up his steps.. got a few times I nearly fall down.. luckily his hand is so strong and kept me steady.. ahha.. and he kept encouraging me, kept meantioned that we were the best group…

Finally I met my team back, they waited me for long, pai se pai se.. before they continued, Mic assigned himself to take care of CM and Apak will take care of me.. ahha.. apak, thanks la, no u no me during the climb~!!! Akakkakaaa… I continued 1-guai 1-guai went down those stupid staircases >.<

At last 1KM, there is a 100m huge staircases.. I nearly faint when I saw it.. and Mr. Pu offered to carry me on his back for this 100m.. I felt happy and worried at the same time.. coz he is to tiny.. small size like ah Mai.. how can he carried me??? Anyhow, I agreed with that.. (very sia-suei to mention..haih)..

This 100m, got funny got scary.. funny is, Mr. Pu said I lighter compared to CM and luggage that he use to carry.. he said they alwiz carry luggage more than 80kgs.. ah Mr. Pu, I put on a lot weight already ler.. ahaha… what’s scary??? You know how he went down the staircases???? He JUMPED!!! Walaoe~ I so scared he will fall down..
“Mr. Pu~!! Don’t jump~~ I scared!!”..
“u scared?? Ok la, we don’t jump… we RUN!!!”
Then he directly ran down the staircases with LAUGH.. regardless my scream!!! SIAO~!!!.. but thank him also, my feet can rest a while.. complicated feeling…

Then, Apak be my tongkat until we passed by Carlson’s fall.. Mr. Pu said 15mins more.. for those who went before u might wonder: so near to ending point still need 15mins??.. yea, u’re right, it’s very near.. but.. DENG!!.. all staircases GOING UP to reached the hut!!! 1st time laban rata, 2nd time the peak, now the 3rd time~…*faint*

This time, Mr. Su insisted that I have to finish it myself else he wont sign my certificates.. pek chek.. I climbed like tortoise, maybe slower than tortoise to reached that baka hut~!! It’s already 530pm.. we missed the time to go Poring Hot Spring.. here, my official apology to all teammates, SORRY~!! But KE n Apak consoled me that they arrived also 4stg.. then need to go HQ take cert also cant make it to HotSpring even I reached same time with them.. thanks guys~ (“,)

Then the smart driver parked the van super mega far.. he took us to KK Park HQ which is quite far from Timpohon gate.. We got 2 certifocates (RM12), one for mesilau trail, one for conquered the peak (timpohon trail).. CM bought another cert that certified his participation (RM5).. snapped the last pictures with guides and bid farewell with them.. thank them for their care & help during these days and wish them all the best~ ^^

Lion’s conclusions:
1) climb is easy, everyone can make it, jia-you!!
2) descent is painful, wear better/thicker shoes.. tongkat is important..
3) we’re lucky coz no one met leeches!!!
4) our weather from beginning till end was considered perfect (weson them climb in the rain.. so slippery…)
5) we made it!!! We had a clear vision of sunrise!!!
6) I have staircase’s phobia now..
7) all food is nice after 2 days with ‘energy bar’..
8) will only go again if take helicopter to laban rata n back too!!!

Since the Poring plan had been cancelled, CM suggested we try the chicken-wings (siu gai yek) at Kundasang (correct?? Not sure).. So we went for that.. luckily we did, coz the way back to town took so long, if we didn’t eat that, all of us may have gastric later..

Then we continued our journey back to TrekkerLodge.. the sky went dark very early..and the mist was so so thick.. the visibility was just like 50m or maybe lesser.. BUT the driver drove like roller coaster!! The speed never go down.. although got divider between two directions .. still I scared he bang on vehicle opposite.. really no eyes see.. I slept deadly in van…. Think all of us.. slept deadly.. zzZZzzZzzzzz

After 2hrs+ journey (another record, we slept on roller coaster!!!), we climb again, ya, to the 4th floor dorm… haih.. cant wait everyone to get ready, I slipped out the room and went for a short bath.. they thought I lost my patient and went for bak kut the shop 1st.. ahha.. really understand me.. ahahhaa.. tapi this time salah.. I was in bathroom.. akakkakaa…

After the dinner, everyone was so tired and got ready to sleep… sleep??? It’s only 10stg… Last nite in KK ler.. how can u all wasted it just like that???.. so I busy ‘jio’ them drink beer la, play cards la, chit chat la, yamcha la, play ‘true or dare’ la.. NO one entertain me.. *sob sob*.. (after that only I realized they didn’t have a good sleep at Laban Rata.. ahha, pai se, I slept tightly :”> ).. at last, left apak n me sat outside the room and chit chat till super sleepy only went to bed.. it’s almost 2am edi… zzZZzZzZzzzz

KK Trip *3*

Day3: Mount KK (Mesilau Trail)

10~ 10~ 10~ 10~~~!!! It’s the main purpose of the trip~!!! We booked it on Dec 06!! That’s why we didn’t get the direct flight from PG-KK coz the service only available since Feb 07.. our destination today is Laban Rata Resthouse.. estimate time for experienced climbers is 5-6hrs, but for kaki without training like me is 8-9hrs!!

Mesilau is a new, longer but smoother trail, with much better scenery all the way up to Layang-Layang (the point where M trail join back the original Timpohon trail).. we need to climb 6km to reach LL and 2km from LL to Laban Rata Resthse.. ya it’s super long route.. but WORTH IT~!!! Coz Timpohon route is bored coz without nice scenery… also, they (yee hung, alex lim, siek ann) think “I” better use this route rather than Timpohon, else will climb-die-me coz it’s a route with staircases!!! Thx guys…

Still, we very kia-su, once we confirmed that we can do registration at Mesilau starting point, we informed the van driver to pick us up at 530am.. haha.. we crawled out from bed and washed up.. Surprisingly, hostel’s staff still served our breakfast, coz initially they said it’s too early for them.. haha, considered lucky beginning although we bought some bread last nite… ^^

Again, found that travel is alwiz wasting time on distance.. it’s tiring to take 2-3hrs to reach a spot.. my bosy still tired from yesterday’s rafting.. fen n I cant sleep in van.. so we enjoy the sceneries all the way… one more thing, the van’s aircond is natural aircond.. the air was so fresh but cold.. I almost become a lion-stick beside the window~~

The scene changed from kampung to hill.. with moderate speed.. we passed small villages.. some churchs.. think most of Kadazan Dusun ppl also christian, I think.. slowly, our position was higher than cloud and some mountains around.. the ‘cloud-sea’ was so nice!! n we saw the peak of mount KK while approaching Mesilau registration centre.. it’s majestic!! Suddenly felt that I was full of energy!!!

At registration office, we paid for entrance fee (RM3), permit (RM30 for Malaysian), insurance (RM7) and got our namecard (ID card; really go everywhere also got dog-tag, skol, company.. now hiking…) put on.. then hired 2 guides (RM92 each) for our group of 10ppl.. then hired porter as well (rm8 per kg; think the weighting machine bit cheating one, anyway, they worth that price, trust me!!).. visited toilet before the climb.. bought a tongkat (stick; RM3; must buy!! No regrets!!).. briefing with Mr Su & Mr. Pu (our guides, very funny n helpful guys.. lucky ^^).. applied mosquito repellent.. checked the watch, almost 9am.. then 3, 2, 1.. go!!! Jia-you!!!!

Yeah~ fast fast we arrived KM1.. they crazy taking pic all the way while I busy applying counterpain for every stop ;p;p .. then KM2, steady steady, everytime we rest also limited in 3-5mins as we followed Mr. Su’s advice… then KM3… the trail keep going down & down.. more like descent than hike.. Until, fen asked me “why we keep going down geh?”.. then we came to a long long slope that non-stop going up!!! Thanks fen~ >.<

We were fast and went thru 3 KM within 3hrs.. we stopped for lunch at 12stg… ate energy bar, choco, bread and so on… this trail is highly recommended coz almost every 0.5km/1km will have a hut, with toilet and water to refill (untreated water, take at ur own risk ;p).. with cozy weather.. can slowly walk and breathe in fresh air…

Coz my stamina is limited edition compare to others, so I walked in front of group and rest lesser but longer.. hehe.. while waiting them to join me back..
Him:” where r u from?”
Me:”penang.” (some ppl might dunno mainland’s name)
Him:”me too~!! Actually I’m from b’worth.”
Me:”huh? Dun tel me u frm CLB..”
Him:”I am!! How u know?”
Me:”when u graduated from there?”
Him:”1997.”
Me:” u know my sis? Xxx class..”
Him:”haha.. I’m her classmate!”
Walao~!!! What a small world~!!! Haha.. nice to meet u at mount KK, JeeKhai~~

Then, we also met a 62yrs old uncle.. very ket!! His daughter also ket~ as she took the luggage herself!!! Well, our team also got one ket ppl, is KE~!! His bag + gf’s bag = 10kg++.. wat else can I say?? KET!!!!!!!!!!!!

We took 6hrs to reach KM6.. it’s a good progress ^^

From Layang-Layang, the 2 KM left was so chi cham.. all staircases (big rocks).. the distance of each step is quite big.. have to keep bending knee and “pump” urself up.. tongkat is the best mate at the moment.. from here, I started to feel the toughness, my heart beat pump so fast.. this is the ‘kenot-give-up’ stage, coz even u wan give up also too far from starting point edi.. haha…

Luckily, the scene at KM5.. after LL (4km from Timpohon starting point), the trail measurement followed the original trail.. can see the Bonsai plant and cloud-sea and the granite peak~!!! Kah-yao~ kah-yao~.. I told myself!! The wind blow softly and cool cool.. surrounded by thin mist… like the mountain god giving me support.. kah-yao!!!

Up n up, stick with Mic n Apak.. finally we arrived Waras hut (3243.7m), the last resting area before Laban Rata (3272.7m).. Mic n Apak stopped for photo snapping session but I chose to ignore them.. haha.. coz wa memang no more energy, wish I can see the shadow of Laban Rata Resthouse immediately!!!....

15th June 2007, Friday, 6:00pm (1800hrs), I was so proud to arrive here as 3rd person of my team!!! The best climber in family Cheah and family Lion~!!!.. Soon, I found out that they rili ‘wan-ye’.. there are still some staircases before we arrived the resthouse’s lobby, deng!!! There is a thermometer at entrance read 9.7 degree Celsius.. cool cool~.. faster went to check-in at counter..

We got a dorm with 6 beds and a room with 4 beds.. no more staircase for dorm but the room at 1st floor.. I went for dorm, haha… another lucky thing, once my teammates all entered the resthouse, the weather changed suddenly and heavy rain had fallen without any sign.. wah, weather of rain forest really unpredictable~ ;p;p

After the energy-bar day, we purchased dinner at the café.. the price considered reasonable coz the range is expected one.. buffet dinner is RM33.. bee-hun soup, tomyam soup, fried rice n so on are selling at RM14-16.. white rice RM1.50.. milo and other drinks at RM4-6.. hot water at RM1… taste is ok, so worth to pay that price as the porter carried all equipment and ingredient from bottom to cook for us here… I really pui-fok them~!!

Meanwhile, Mr. Zk said one unbelievable phrase:”I dunwan go up to peak liao!”.. walao~~ we expected this phrase from ah fen ler~~.. even HH who was very tired also wanna conquer the mount ler... he kept asking us 1by1 “u wanna go up meh?”.. all the answer disappointed him “of course la~!!”.. akakkakakaaa.. ah fen, steady!!

After dinner, I couldnt stand the sticky skin, so thought of bathe 1st before the 730pm briefing with guides.. what the h*ll?! They only served hot water after 8pm (as well as heater in room).. walaoe.. what a stupid management, all climbers arrived about 6pm.. takkan hav to wait til 8pm only take bath?? Then 9pm sleep? 1am wake up for climb??? Use ur brain la~!!!.. So hard to ready for bath, u know?? the weather is so so cold.. I was trembling inside the washroom.. *skip*.. at last, we all also used wet cloth/tower to clean ourselves only, coz after 8pm also they didnt serve hot water...

Applied counterpain crazily.. I could feel the cold attacking my bone.. effect of counterpain, ahha, u guys dun learn me, it’s a stupid act.. covered myself like a bak-zang and attended the short briefing.. guides said we’re good, coz all of us made it to arrived Laban Rata safely + ‘completely’.. no one hurts.. then they encouraged us to believe in ourselves for tmr’s climb… also discuss about the departure time tmr.. request guide to help us prepare hot water for breakfast.. blab la.. then I dunno what actually happened next, coz I back to dorm, took panadol and sleep directly.. haha..

Storm + Thunder + Lightning outside.. non-of-my-business.. zzzZZzzzzZzzzzzz

KK Trip *2*

Day2 Day2… Padas White Water Rafting!!

Pick up time is 730am.. so most of us had set 630am alarm.. who knows, itu ZK, kia su~, set 6am!!! Then whole room woke up liao… forgot who 1st.. definitely not me… The sky is very bright outside…ya 6am only, very bright…walao… easily to develop early sleep, early wake up life style.. since nite life quite boring…’quite’….!!!

The kids (high skol one I think) who also rented dorms here woke up very early too, a lot of ppl queued for the washroom.. Same condition while we when to Lobby.. whole bunch of ppl lined-up for the breakfast.. the breakfast is included in the package, we can have 2 slices of toast with butter/jam, fruits and free-flow of coffee/tea..

Their ah sir took good care on their discipline.. they cleaned the table and washed dishes after eating.. so, due to the good manner, we have to lined-up for that as well.. although we didn’t wash them, hahaha… Then, we off to Beaufort with a cool botak guide.. look like The Rock, serious!!.. ahahhahaaaa…

Arrived at Beaufort Train Station 20mins earlier.. Fen, Sophia, ST n Zk went to grab 'something’ (i forgot liao... water?food?..) from town nearby.. it’s too hot, so I rather sit at waiting area.. while CM n apak busy keng-gai with guai-lou… the 1st train was so full, "The Rock" advised us to take 2nd train.. and we did..

Departed around 1030am.. 30mins late.. we sat in the 60’s/70’s HK style old train and ‘enjoy’ the hot air inside.. this train very baa-pai one.. it’s call The North Borneo Railway.. it’s features a Mid-Centry British “Vulcan” Steam Engine, the last of a fleet of locomotives that have plied the tracks through Borneo since the 1900s…

We stored our belongings in locker at the rafting ending point, Rayoh Train Station.. and continued we heading towards starting point, the Pangi station.. guess what?! The train went off the rails!!! Too bad that our cameras all in the locker!!! Poor us, we got down from the train and walked towards the destination.. After about 1km walk, another train came in rescue.. then we back on train again..

A short briefing regarding the ways to use the paddle n safety precaution was given… we separated into 2groups, all girls with Zk, Apak n KE.. CM n Mic followed The Rock and joined their new friends from HK n UK.. Since our rafting trip was delayed, The Rock said we missed the chance of taking the photos while rafting.. :(:(:(

The weather was good, the water was brownie and fast.. with life vest on n slippers off.. we started our adventure around 3pm.. ya, I used a lot of “around” coz really not sure about the time.. Apak, HH n KE were at the 1st row, Zk, Fen n I at the middle row, Sophia n ST at last row.. the 2 guides were guarded at the back.. fen n HH as middle person of each row grabbed our life vest while we all paddling, be our guardian angel~

At the beginning, the wave is nothing!! we just kept going forward.. until we reached a quiet ‘pond’.. the guide said it’s call “swimming pool”.. then he jumped in with free-style.. so, with no hesitate, we followed.. woo~woo~.. the water is SO COLD!!! The tiny fen who dunno swim also jump into water, hahahha…

After a while, we were helped by guide and got back on boat.. I was the last one and while I got in, directly we faced the big waves!!! Phew~… so, we faster paddle according to the guide’s commands.. “Forward! Forward!”.. but our team were so lack of ‘mo-qi’.. the “1,2.. 1,2..” was lousy and our boat kept turning side-way.. hahahhaa…

Actually, how hard we tried to paddle, it’s useless one.. the guide paddle 1 time can turn the boat on track… wahahahaa… we like paddle for fun~ ;p;p;p.. we passed the dangerous area again and again.. until we arrived the middle of the trip, one of the boat turned over.. As we were too far to help.. boats beside it went near to ‘fish’ those victims..

Although we had most girls on boat among all boats, we were the 1st boat to arrived resting point!! Yoo-hoooo~~ after all boats gathered, we continued the adventure… we met the washing-machine spin~ the snake wave~ and many more I cant recall the name.. this rafting route is rated as level 3-4 for rafting (over level4; the most dangerous)..

Now, we had more ‘mo-qi’ already.. kept shouting “1,2.. 1,2..”.. suddenly, the biggest wave in this century hit our boat!!!!! “wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh”.. everyone shouted and suddenly I found that I was at the Fen’s place.. and inner elbow was cross with Fen’s inner knee (well, I dunno what these parts call, guess u all can understand what I mean..)..”oh no!” I faster dragged her back to her position and got back mine too.. and I really have no idea what had happened!!..

“Sophia felt into water!!!”.. after a while, I heard this.. walao, started to panic.. coz is the most dangerous area, and we really want to safe her… but how???

“continue forward, I will safe her!” said the guide steadily n the he jumped towards her direction while another guide leading us on boat.. so we followed his command and kept on paddle the boat.. Like a very easy job, the guide drag Sophia back on boat immediately, cool~!! It’s kan-cheong but fun.. hahaha.. we shouted our victory "yea~!!" by hitting all our paddles together.. but "aiyak!" alwiz the guide like to hit fen's head.. think he likes her "aiyak!!" very much.. hahaha

Cut-in:
We mentioned bout this after the game..
The 1st phrase while Sophia got back to boat “I thought KE wanna safe me and he also drop into water edi!!”.. walaoe~~ Sophia Lee, that guy wanna safe you one is ur honey Zk la!!! If KE also drop into water, meant that our boat already up-side-down!!! (p/s: KE was at the position most far from Sophia!!)
Then, as I told Sophia n all, if really cant control n drop into water, just let go ur hand, dun let the wave twist you and this might sprain ur hand.. so I think Sophia can be considered ‘half drop, half jump into water herself’.. akakkakaa…
Also, as I told fen, no matter how, you also must grab our life vest tightly.. so while Zk wanna go safe his honey, Fen grabbed his life vest so so tight, then Zk was in the position of ‘one leg in boat, one leg in water’.. hahahaha

We completed the game in 1hr, not very long but still exhausted.. especially hand & arm.. kinda ‘sour’ ;p;p;p.. can felt it’s shaking while changing clothes and holding plates (buffet lunch).. we took pic with full equipment on by ST’s camera.. ‘rafting on grass’.. hahaha…

Acted very fast, we changed and had lunch in only 15mins, then we needed to catch the train and descent to Beaufort Train Station… The buffet was so-so.. but since everyone was hungry, it’s considered gift-from-heaven.. hahahaha… got BBQ chicken wing, rice, fried mee, mixed-vege, sausages, watermelon, canned drink… and.. I cant remember liao..

On the way back to BTS (not Berjaya time square la..), the train was so so so crowded.. the journey took very long to arrived as this train actually functioned as ‘bus’ for the local ppl too.. it stopped at every stop just like LRT… a HK guy even scolded rude word coz lost of patient.. cant blame him, really very hot inside n the train moved super slow…

Fen, sophia, ST and I only found place to sit after.. 45mins?1hr?.. not sure.. zong-ji very long la… I straight felt asleep once I got a seat while they busy discussing the incident of “Sophia dropped into water”.. haha.. tired neh… zzzZZZZzzzzz

Finally, eventually, lastly… we arrived the BTS.. but The Rock informed us that our van broke down!!! Ishhh… at last, he/his company paid taxi for us to go back TrekkersLodge.. I dun really care as long as I can go back.. too tired to think liao... just felt sleepy + hungry.. haha…

If not mistaken, it’s nearly 2hrs journey to get back to KK town.. cant wait CM to finish his bathe, fen n I left Apak n CM waited for him, and we went to the seafood restaurant 1st.. we have no idea which restaurant is the one ppl meant cheap and nice.. so simply chose one.. we went to PortView Seafood Restaurant..

We ordered crab, local vege, some shell thingy, prawns, ostrich meat… the crab was tiny but fresh.. the vege was munchy.. the ‘象鼻蚌’ in slices was great too.. prawns just so-so but fresh, bit overcooked.. and, the best was ostrich meat!!! It’s not like we alwiz eat, thick n hard.. it’s well cooked, soft and served with tasty source.. :D:D:D

Like that, day2 ended.. we packed our luggage, one for hiking, one for hiring porter to carry to Laban Rata resthouse, and the rest will be stored at lobby~… then off light!! zzZzZZzzz

** heard from a fren, even they took rafting pic for us also we wont buy it coz it costs RM100+ per pcs.. walao!!!

KK Trip *1*

Guess most of you also knew that I just came back from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It’s a great experience and I think all of you should try at least once in life time… ahlik sprained her leg, pity have to give up the trip.. lik, u can go next time with roti n fanny~…

It’s a 5days 4nitez backpack trip..

Day 1..
Met up with Kok Ee n Huey Hun at Pg airport.. and we flew to LCCT.. it’s my 1st time to aboard with Air Asia.. As it’s a low cost flight, passenger needs to purchase food on board… and no outside food is allowed.. the Maggie in cup is selling at RM6.. sandwiches also cost RM5… less smile found on cabin crews’ faces.. but the seat was ok… so, as long as can send me to destination safely, I cant expect more la..

Discovered one useful info, the sky bus service:
KL sentral -> LCCT
330am – 10pm; every 30mins
LCCT -> KL sentral
7am, 8am – 1.15am; every 30mins
Buy on-board then RM9… purchase at LCCT (arrival hall) only RM8.. KL sentral I dunno…

Then, met SiewFen, Sophia, ZanKai, CharSen(Apak), CheeKhim (Michael) n CheeMeng at LCCT and i decided to buy the muffin from Coffee Bean and eat in plane, hahaha…. Talked talked talked…2hrs+ gone and we arrived at KK airport.. Met up with Siang Theen then we took 15mins taxi (coz a lot traffic light on the way) @ RM20/cab then we arrived TrekkersLodge!! No bad la the environment for Malaysia standard.. haha..lose Taipei hostel a little bit…

All dorm is available at level 4 only…so we started to warm up for our climb on Day3.. After unloaded, we were super hungry and ‘ran’ to foodcourt at Wisma Merdeka (shopping complex just opposite) to heal our stomach 1st… ya FOOD COURT, coz at 3pm, nothing we cant find here…too late for lunch, n too early for dinner… Fen and I shared the big plate ikan masin fried rice + herbal soup at RM9.45 (if not mistaken; one plate fried rice also rm5-6 liao).. kinda high living cost ;p;p;p

Then, went to Watson got some energy bar for Day3 use and left Wisma Merdeka.. Since there was some rain outside, we cancelled our plan to go Pulau Sapi.. another reason is all islands closed at 5-6pm as Sabah at the East of Malaysia, the sky go dark around one hour ahead compare to Penang/KL (west coast).. So, we went for town tour, used the map we grabbed from Airport and walked ourselves..

Wat a map??!! Show the town SO SO big!!! Mind you, the town is very small only!!!! All walking distance.. the map tipu saja…shocked us while we see the Filipino Market is so far away, who knows, only 10-15mins walk… super near!!! But, one thing, if I didn’t see the sea with my own eyes, I wont believe the town just at seaside, NO WIND ONE!! Sunny + rain + no wind = KOOK!!!

We snap photos at the jetty.. walked ‘passed’ the wet market.. then arrived Filipino Handicraft Market.. all busy grabbed souvenirs here.. I wanna clarify that: here really nothing suitable to be souvenir one!! Except key chain…. Ya key chain again.. to me I ok one, I collecting key chain.. but guess some of you might f eel bored “arg, key chain again”.. haha.. pai se.. rili nothing to buy…some just too big, too heavy, too useless…KE n HH bought a lot ‘fish biscuit’.. their family request one.. Sabah’s special..

Dinner time.. we didn’t try the seafood this round because we don’t know which is nice and cheap…all restaurant around, guess might be expensive… so we went for Da-Cao opposite TrekkersLodge.. the lao-ban-niang very lansi…but nvm la, hungry edi.. I was the one who ordered.. coz too many ppl hard to compromise, so I be the ba-dao one, order what I want to eat saja la.. hahaha… got chicken, prawn, soup, 2 types of vege…n I forgot already.. Sabah style Da-Cao, price almost the same as KL, not bad la.. just still beh song the lan-si aunty…

After that, apak, fen n me when to walked around…only 8pm, all shops are closed.. KE n HH joined us halfway, and we continued the journey… again, from map, the night market is far, but, it’s just like STAD walked to end of MPH… tipu saja.. the night market, VERY BAD.. not a big one, still got stalls stalls.. but almost all stalls selling similar goods!! Walao, like that why not u all combine n put 3-5 stalls there enuf??? Waste my ‘leg energy’..

Back to Trekkers, pack for tmr’s outing.. bathe (toilet clean but shower quite low water pressure).. got place to wash and hang clothes.. then zzZzzZZZzzzzzz

sharing *1*
